Do's and Don't's

Do's
  • Pursue excellence.
  • Be responsible.
  • Be properly rested so you can do your best each day.
  • Be prompt each morning.  In fact, be early.
  • Observe firm policies at all times.
  • Be professionally attired no matter how others may be dressed.
  • Be professional at all times.
  • Be respectful of your fellow workers.
  • Refer to everyone as "Mr." or "Ms." unless someone insists you call them by their first name.
  • Learn the names of your co-workers and personnel and greet them when you meet them during the work day.
  • Say "Yes Sir" and "Yes Ma'am" instead of "Okay" or "Uh huh."
  • When you are in need of work tell your supervisor and also let others know you are available for additional projects.
  • Be enthusiastic about each project, no matter how boring or exciting.
  • Determine from your supervisor what is acceptable for you to do if there are times when you don't have a work assignment.
  • Ask questions if the project is not clear.
  • Double check your work.
  • Take pride in your work.
  • If you are going to be late, call and let your supervisor (mentor) know.  Speak to someone live -- do not only leave a voice mail.
  • If you are going to miss a day from an illness or family emergency, call and let your supervisor, mentor, and Stefanie Aponte know.  Stefanie Aponte (404-832-6210).
  • If invited to a firm/office event, do your best to attend.
  • Thank members of your firm/office who extend acts of kindness to you.  Do so by written note.
  • Turn your cell phone off when you get to work each day.
  • Enjoy your experience.
Here are the Don'ts
  • No personal telephone calls.
  • No cell phone usage during the work hours.
  • No iPods
  • No "getting unaccounted for" when you handle a delivery outside of the firm.
  • Don't concern yourself with other people's business.
  • Don't read newspapers, books, etc. during work unless part of your project.
  • Don't leave work early or exactly the time your day is supposed to end.
  • Don't let other people impact your approach to -- or performance in -- your work.
  • Don't use e-mail for other than work-related issues.
  • Don't use the internet except for work-related issues.
  • To state the obvious, don't sleep at work.
  • Don't waste this experience.
